What is an athlete of the month display?
An athlete of the month display shows the students a school has chosen for that month’s athletic honor, with a photo, sport and the reason they were picked, and it usually sits in a front office lobby or cafeteria entrance. With HistoryShowcase, current honorees sit up front, and each month’s winners move into a school year collection instead of coming down.

Last month’s honoree deserves better than the recycling bin
Athlete of the month programs mean a lot to the students chosen. The name is read over the morning announcements, a photo goes on a bulletin board, and four weeks later it comes down for the next one. By the end of the year, nobody can say who was honored in October. The reasons, often the best part, were never written down at all.
An athlete of the month display puts the current honorees up front with a short note on why each was chosen: leadership, effort, sportsmanship or a breakout performance. When the month ends, they move into the school year’s collection instead of the trash. It also makes it easy to see whether recognition is spread across sports and seasons.
How does an athlete of the month display compare with a bulletin board?
| What matters | Bulletin board | HistoryShowcase |
|---|---|---|
| After the month ends | The photo comes down for the next one | Honorees move to this school year’s collection |
| Why they were chosen | Often only read over announcements | A short reason from the coach on each profile |
| Who updates it | Whoever pins up the new photo | Coaches draft; a publisher puts it live |
| Year-end look back | Rebuilt from memory for the banquet | Every month’s honorees in one place |
What to show each month
This month’s honorees
Keep the current athletes in their own collection, with a portrait and their sport and grade.
Why they were chosen
A few sentences from the nominating coach. Effort and character count as much as statistics.
Photos from the month
Add game and practice photos to each profile so the honor connects to real moments.
The whole school year
Every month’s honorees in one collection, so end-of-year banquets can look back.
Every past winner
Earlier years stay in their own collections, a tap away from this month.
How to run it month to month
Three collections handle the whole cycle. Move each month’s honorees along when the next ones are named.

Athlete of the month display questions
How much work is it each month?
Usually a few profiles: a name, sport, grade, photo and a short reason. Coaches can draft them as editors, and one person publishes when they’re ready.
Can we recognize one boy and one girl each month, or one per sport?
Yes. You decide how many honorees each month has. The collection holds as many profiles as you add.
What happens to past winners?
They stay. Move them into a school year or past winners collection, where visitors can browse or search for them.
Can students and families see it outside school?
Yes. The published site has its own web address, so families can open it at home and share it.
