What is a wrestling record board?

A wrestling record board lists a program’s career wins leaders, pin records, state qualifiers and placers, usually with weight class and year, and it is often painted on the wall outside the wrestling room. HistoryShowcase keeps each wrestler at the weight they actually wrestled, gives every state placer a profile and lets visitors filter by weight class, finish or year.

Wrestling records are about more than one number

A wrestling program measures itself in career wins, pins, takedowns, state qualifiers and the wrestlers who stood on the podium. Most rooms track that on a hand-lettered wall of placers and a list of career win leaders nobody has touched since a coach retired. Weight classes have changed over the years too, so a placer from 1985 sits at a weight that doesn’t exist anymore.

A wrestling record board can hold all of it with the context it needs. Career and season records go in a ledger, state placers are listed by year with their weight and finish, and every name opens to a full profile. The coaching staff can add a new career wins leader the week it happens, and keep the old weight classes exactly as they were wrestled.

What goes on a wrestling record board

  • Career wins leaders

The wrestlers with the most career victories, with their win and loss record and class year.

  • Pins and takedowns

Career and single-season records for falls, takedowns and fastest pins, if your program keeps them.

  • State qualifiers and placers

Every wrestler who reached the state tournament, with the year, weight class and place.

  • State champions

Give individual state champions their own collection, with a portrait and the story of the final match.

  • Team records

Dual meet wins in a season, conference titles and team finishes at tournaments.

  • Historic weight classes

Keep each wrestler at the weight they actually wrestled, even if the class no longer exists.

How to set up your wrestling records

Keep individual marks and state results in separate collections. A Weight class filter lets visitors find every wrestler at their weight across decades.

How do you set up a wrestling record board?

  1. Check the old wall against the scorebooks

Start with the placers wall and any career win lists, and confirm them against old programs, brackets or scorebooks.

  2. Add wrestlers in a batch

Import a spreadsheet with name, weight, year and finish, or upload a tournament program and let Smart Add suggest entries.

  3. Publish before the home opener

Preview everything on the touchscreen, then publish so the board is ready when families arrive for the first home dual.

Where should a wrestling record board go?

  • Outside the wrestling roomThe current team walks past the names they’re chasing at every practice.
  • Gym lobby on dual nightsFamilies and alumni look up past placers between matches.
  • Booster and alumni pagesShare the web address so former wrestlers can find themselves and send in photos.

Wrestling record board questions

Our weight classes have changed. How do we show older placers?

Enter each wrestler at the weight they wrestled. Weight class is a detail on the profile and a filter for visitors, so old and new classes sit side by side without being renamed.

Can we list every state qualifier, not just placers?

Yes. Add qualifiers to the same collection with their finish noted, or give them their own collection. Visitors can filter by finish or year.

Can alumni help fill in missing years?

Yes. Share the board’s web address with alumni and ask for corrections and photos. You can add volunteers by email as editors, and their changes stay in a private draft until someone with publishing access publishes.

How do we show a wrestler’s career record?

Put the win and loss record in the subtitle and tell the story in the biography: the coaches, the rivals and the matches people still talk about.
