What is an esports hall of fame?

An esports hall of fame honors the standout players, coaches, teams and championships of a school’s competitive gaming program, usually by season and game title, and it often sits outside the esports room or in an athletic hallway. HistoryShowcase treats esports like any varsity program, with inductee portraits, teams by season, championship banners and a timeline of program milestones.

Write it down while it’s still being written

Many school esports programs are only a few years old. That’s an advantage. Older sports had to rebuild their history from yearbooks and fading memories. Your program can record it as it happens: the founding roster, the first league match, the first postseason run, the coach who pushed for a dedicated room. In ten years, those details will be hard to recover.

An esports hall of fame also says something to the students in the program. They practice, compete, travel and win titles as a school team. Their names belong in the building next to every other team’s. Show them the way your school shows other student athletes, with rosters, championships and profiles of the players and coaches who built the program.

What goes in an esports hall of fame

  • Hall of fame inductees

Standout players and coaches with profiles, their seasons, their roles and what they meant to the program.

  • Teams by season and title

Rosters for each season, organized by game title, with each player’s role and team photo.

  • Championships and postseason runs

League titles, state results and playoff appearances as championship banners.

  • The broadcast and production crew

Casters, producers and graphics students who brought matches to families. They’re part of the program too.

  • Program milestones

The first season, the first dedicated space, the first title, in order on a timeline.

  • Player names and handles

List players by name and, if your school is comfortable with it, the handle teammates knew them by.

How to structure an esports hall of fame

Treat it like any varsity program: honorees, teams by season, titles and the program’s story. Game title works well as a filter.

  1. Record the founding story

Interview the founding coach and first players while they’re still around. Add the program’s first season to the timeline.

  2. Add every season’s teams

Create a story for each team and season with the roster, roles and team photo. Fill in titles as banners.

  3. Induct, then publish

Choose your first honorees, write their profiles, preview the display privately and publish it.

Esports hall of fame questions

Our program is new. Is there enough to show?

Yes. Start with the founding roster, each season’s teams and your program’s milestones. The hall of fame can open with its first class whenever you’re ready.

Should we use players’ real names or handles?

Follow how your school recognizes other student athletes. Real names usually lead, with a handle in the subtitle if the student and school are comfortable with it.

Can we organize by game title?

Yes. Add game title as a visitor filter, alongside role and year, or give each title its own sub-collection.

Can the broadcast crew and coaches be included?

Yes. Give them profiles in the hall of fame or a collection of their own. Profiles hold a biography and up to 100 photos.
