What is an alumni military service display?
An alumni military service display recognizes graduates who are serving in the armed forces now, along with seniors who earned academy appointments, enlisted or won ROTC scholarships, and it usually sits near the counseling office or commons. With HistoryShowcase, each graduate has a touchscreen profile with branch and class year, and families can send milestones for staff to add.

Seniors who choose service deserve their own signing day
Schools celebrate college commitments and athletic signings loudly, while the senior who earned a service academy appointment or enlisted after graduation often gets a line in the graduation program. Once they leave, the school rarely hears what they are doing, though their families would gladly share it.
An alumni military service display is about graduates serving now. Seniors appear the spring they commit, with their branch, their academy or ROTC program and a photo from the ceremony. As they finish training, families can send milestones such as basic training graduation, commissioning or promotion. When a graduate leaves the service, their profile can move to your permanent veterans wall of honor.
How does an alumni military service display compare with a graduation program listing?
| What matters | Graduation program listing | HistoryShowcase |
|---|---|---|
| Recognition for seniors | A line in the program | A profile with branch and academy or program |
| After graduation | Stays as printed | Milestones added as families share them |
| What is shared | Name and branch or academy | Only what the family is comfortable sharing |
| When service ends | No change to the program | Profile can move to the veterans wall |
| Keepsake for families | A printed copy to keep | A web address to share with relatives |
What to include on an alumni military service display
Service academy appointments
Seniors who received appointments, with the academy, a photo from the announcement and a few words about why they chose it.
Enlistment commitments
Seniors who enlisted, honored the way athletic signees are, with their branch and the field they chose.
ROTC scholarships
Graduates who earned ROTC scholarships at their colleges, with the branch and the program they joined.
Milestones families share
Finishing basic training, graduating from an academy, commissioning or promotion, added to the profile when the family sends them.
Guard and reserve members
Graduates serving in the National Guard or reserves close to home, often while working or in college.
A note to current students
A short message from the service member about the choice they made, when they want to share one.
Organizing graduates who serve
Separate graduates serving now from seniors who just committed, and filter by branch. Keep profiles current as families share news.

How do you start an alumni military service display?
Start with this year’s seniors
Ask counselors for seniors with appointments, enlistments or ROTC scholarships, and build their profiles before graduation.
Invite families to share updates
Tell families the display exists and how to send news. Add updates in a private draft and check details with them before publishing.
Recognize them at a public moment
Publish for senior awards night or a military signing ceremony, then share the web address with families and relatives.
Where should a military alumni display go?
- Counseling officeWhere underclassmen ask about academies, enlistment and ROTC.
- Cafeteria or commonsStudents see classmates and recent graduates who chose service.
- Auditorium lobbyFamilies pass it at senior awards night and graduation rehearsal.
Alumni military service display questions
What should we leave out for graduates on active duty?
Leave out duty stations, deployment dates and anything the service member or their family would not want public. Ask before adding details, and keep profiles to branch, class year, milestones and the photos they share.
How is this different from a veterans wall of honor?
This display celebrates graduates serving now and seniors who just committed. A wall of honor is the permanent record of those who served. When a graduate completes their service, move their profile to the wall.
How do we keep it current?
Ask families once a year for updates, perhaps around Veterans Day, and add what they share. Nothing appears until someone with publishing access publishes it.
Can JROTC cadets appear here too?
Many schools give JROTC its own display for cadet awards and unit history. Cadets who commit to service as seniors fit well in this one.
