Put every school record on one touchscreen, sorted by event. Each mark opens the athlete’s profile, with the meet, the year and photos from the day.

## What is a track and field record board?

A track and field record board is a display of a school’s best marks in each running, jumping and throwing event, listing the athlete, the time or distance and the year, usually hung in a field house or gym. With HistoryShowcase, each record sits in a touchscreen ledger, opens to the athlete’s profile and can be updated and published the day a new mark is official.

## Records change. Painted boards don’t.

Most track record boards are painted, engraved or printed. When a sophomore breaks a twenty-year-old 1600m mark, the old name stays up until someone finds the budget and the time to repaint. Relay splits, wind readings and the stories behind the marks never fit on the board at all.

A digital record board keeps the list current the same afternoon. Your coach updates the mark and the name, previews it privately and publishes when it’s right. Athletes see their names go up while the moment still matters, and the athletes they replaced stay in the record history instead of disappearing.

## How does a track and field record board compare with a painted record board?

| What matters | Painted record board | HistoryShowcase |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Updating a broken record | Repaint or reletter the event line | Edit the mark, preview it, publish |
| Relay legs and meet details | Usually only the team and mark fit | All four legs, the meet and the year |
| Former record holders | Painted over when a record falls | Kept in a record history collection |
| Indoor and outdoor seasons | Separate boards need separate wall space | Separate collections, each with its own ledger |
| Seeing it away from school | Only in the building | Shared by web address with alumni and recruits |

## What goes on a track and field record board

- **Every event, boys and girls.** Sprints, hurdles, distance, relays, jumps and throws, each with its current school record.
- **The mark, the meet and the year.** Show the time or distance alongside where it was set and when, so visitors can see how long it has stood.
- **Relay teams by name.** List all four legs of each record relay, with a team photo if you have one.
- **Athlete profiles.** Each record holder opens to a profile with a biography, a class year and up to 100 photos.
- **Record history.** Keep earlier record holders in their own collection so the athletes who held a mark first are still remembered.
- **Indoor and outdoor seasons.** Separate indoor and outdoor records into their own collections, each with its own layout.

## How to set up your record board

Group records the way your program talks about them. The Honors ledger layout lists marks in clean rows; profiles hold the stories.

Site: Track & Field Records

- **Sprints and hurdles** (Honors ledger): One row per event with the athlete, mark and year.
- **Distance and relays** (Honors ledger): Relay entries list all four runners in the subtitle.
- **Jumps and throws** (Honors ledger): Field marks in feet and inches or meters, as your meet results use them.
- **Record holders** (Portrait gallery): A portrait for every athlete on the board, each opening a full profile.

Visitors can filter by: Event, Season, Year.

## How do you set up a track and field record board?

1. **Start from the Record Boards example.** Add the Record Boards example pack to see a finished ledger, then replace the examples with your own events.
2. **Add your records.** Type them in, import a spreadsheet, or let Smart Add read your record list and suggest entries for you to check.
3. **Preview and publish.** Check the board privately on the touchscreen, then publish. Update it again the next time a record falls.

## Where should a track and field record board go?

- **Field house entrance.** Athletes pass it on the way to practice, every day.
- **Gym lobby.** Families see it on meet nights and at winter sports events.
- **Your team’s web page.** The published site has its own web address, so you can share the board with alumni and recruits.

## Track and field record board questions

### How quickly can we update a record?

As soon as the result is official. Edit the mark and the athlete, preview the change privately, then publish. Nothing changes on the screen until someone with publishing access publishes it.

### Can we keep the old record holders?

Yes. Move the previous record into a record-history collection instead of deleting it, so every athlete who held the mark stays on the board.

### Do we need to retype our current board?

No. Import a spreadsheet of your records, or upload a document and let Smart Add suggest entries. You review each one before it’s added.

### Can visitors find one event quickly?

Yes. Visitors can search by name, and you can add filters such as event, season and year to the collection.
