Fall plays, spring musicals and one-acts, each with its cast list, crew, director and photos. Former cast members can find their show and see the program that came after them.

## What is a theater program history display?

A theater program history display is a school exhibit that records every production a drama program has staged, with cast lists, crew credits and photos, usually in a theater lobby or drama hallway. HistoryShowcase lays productions out on a timeline, and Smart Add can read scanned programs and suggest each show’s credits for review.

- Made for: theater directors, drama teachers and arts boosters
- Where schools put it: Theater lobby, Hallway outside the drama room, Alumni reunion
- Layouts: Timeline, Honors ledger, Photo gallery, Profiles
- Visitors can filter by: Production type, Year
- Cost: Free to use. No payment details required.

## The set comes down after closing night

A school production lives for one or two weekends. After closing night the set is struck, costumes go back on the rack, and what remains is a program, a cast photo and a poster that might get framed in the choir room. Older programs end up in a box backstage. Alumni who played the lead in 1987 have no way to show their kids.

A theater program history display treats each production as a story: the show, the season, the director, the full cast list and crew, and as many rehearsal and performance photos as you have. Laid out on a timeline, it shows the program’s whole history at a glance. Current students see the shows that came before them, and alumni find their own name in the cast list.

## How does a theater program history display compare with framed show posters?

| What matters | Framed show posters | HistoryShowcase |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cast and crew credits | Title and dates, sometimes the leads | Every role, crew member and pit musician |
| Wall space | One frame per show | Every production on one timeline |
| Old programs | Boxed up backstage | Scanned into a programs and posters gallery |
| Finding one show | Walk the lobby and look | Search by show or filter by year |
| Look and feel | Original poster art, physically framed | Poster scans beside rehearsal photos |

## What belongs on a theater history display

- **Every production.** Each show with its title, year and season, whether fall play, spring musical, one-act or student-directed showcase.
- **Full cast lists.** Every role and the student who played it, with the leads and the ensemble both listed by name.
- **Crew and pit.** Stage managers, set builders, lighting and sound, costumes and the pit orchestra, credited alongside the cast.
- **Production photos.** Up to 100 photos per show, from first read-through and tech week to curtain call.
- **Programs and posters.** Scans of the printed program and the poster for each show, which often hold the only full credits.
- **Directors.** The teachers who directed and designed the shows, with the years they led the program.

## How to organize your theater history

Make every production its own story, then let the timeline put them in order. Start from the Arts & Performances example to see one finished.

Site: Theater History

- **Productions** (Timeline): One entry per show, with the season and year.
- **Cast and crew lists** (Honors ledger): One row per show with the full credits in the biography.
- **Programs and posters** (Photo gallery): Scans grouped by production.
- **Directors** (Profiles): Each director with their years and the shows they staged.

Visitors can filter by: Production type, Year.

## How do you set up a theater program history display?

1. **Find the box of old programs.** Scan the programs and posters you have. Each program usually has the full cast and crew list.
2. **Let Smart Add read the programs.** Upload the scans and Smart Add suggests a production entry with its credits for you to check and accept.
3. **Publish before the next opening night.** Preview the timeline privately, publish it, and add each new show when it opens.

## Where should a theater history display go?

- **Theater lobby.** Audiences browse it before the show and at intermission.
- **Hallway outside the drama room.** Students see the roles they might audition for next year.
- **Alumni reunion.** Share the web address so former cast members can find their show.

## Theater program history display questions

### We’re missing programs from some years. What should we do?

Add the shows you know about, even with partial credits. Alumni who see the display often have programs at home and can help fill the gaps.

### Can we add a show before it opens?

Yes. Build it in a private draft during rehearsals, and publish when the show opens. Nothing goes live until someone with publishing access publishes it.

### Can former students find themselves?

Yes. Visitors can search for a show by name, or filter by production type and year, then open it to read the full cast list.
