Show your records by event and course on a touchscreen by the natatorium doors. Every time opens the swimmer’s profile, and every relay record names all four swimmers.

## What is a swim team record board?

A swim team record board lists a school’s fastest times in each swimming event, along with relay teams and diving scores, and usually hangs on the natatorium wall or near the pool entrance. HistoryShowcase keeps short course and long course records in separate collections, names every relay leg in order and lets the coach publish a new time the night it is swum.

- Made for: swim coaches and aquatics directors
- Where schools put it: Natatorium entrance, Spectator area, Team web page
- Layouts: Honors ledger, Portrait gallery
- Visitors can filter by: Event, Course, Year
- Cost: Free to use. No payment details required.

## A pool record board has more to track than most

Swimming records come with details a painted board can’t hold. A time in a 25-yard pool is not the same as a time in a 50-meter pool, so programs keep short course and long course records apart. Relay records belong to four swimmers, not one. Diving records are point totals from a set number of dives. And the vinyl letters on the pool wall have been peeling since the last renovation.

A swim team record board on a touchscreen gives each of those its own place. Short course and long course records sit in separate collections, each relay lists every leg in order, and diving scores note the number of dives. When a senior drops a school record at the conference meet, the coach can update it that night and publish it before the next home meet.

## How does a swim team record board compare with vinyl letters on the pool wall?

| What matters | Vinyl wall letters | HistoryShowcase |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Short course and long course | Separate boards or one combined list | Separate collections with a Course filter |
| Relay records | Often the event and time only | All four swimmers in order, with the meet |
| Diving | Frequently left off the wall | Its own collection with score and dive count |
| Changing a time | Peel off old letters and order new ones | Edit the entry and publish after the meet |
| Pool records by visiting teams | Rarely shown beside school records | A separate pool records collection |

## What belongs on a swim and dive record board

- **Short course and long course.** Keep yards and meters in separate collections so no one compares a 25-yard time with a 50-meter time.
- **Every individual event.** Freestyle from the 50 to the 500, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and the individual medley, for girls and boys.
- **Relays with all four legs.** List each swimmer in order in the subtitle, with the meet where the relay set the record.
- **Diving scores.** Record the point total and whether it came from a six-dive or eleven-dive meet, with the diver’s profile and photos.
- **Pool records and team records.** Some programs track the fastest swim ever in their own pool, by any team, separately from their school records. Give each its own collection.
- **Swimmers who held it first.** Keep broken records in a history collection so earlier swimmers stay part of the program’s story.

## Setting up records for the pool

Split records by course first, then by event. The Honors ledger lines up times so they’re easy to read on a quick walk past.

- **Short course yards** (Honors ledger): Individual and relay school records swum in a 25-yard pool.
- **Long course meters** (Honors ledger): Records from 50-meter meets, if your swimmers compete long course.
- **Diving** (Honors ledger): Six-dive and eleven-dive records, with the score in the subtitle.
- **Pool records** (Honors ledger): The fastest times swum in your pool by any team, with the visiting school noted.
- **Record holders** (Portrait gallery): A portrait for each swimmer and diver on the board.

## How do you set up a swim team record board?

1. **Start with your record sheet.** Collect the current records from the coach’s sheet or past meet programs, noting course, event, time, swimmers and year.
2. **Let Smart Add read it.** Upload the sheet or a meet program and Smart Add suggests entries with their sources. Accept the ones that match and fix any that don’t.
3. **Publish after the big meet.** Preview the board, then publish. After each championship meet, enter the new times and publish again.

## Where should a swim team record board go?

- **Natatorium entrance.** Swimmers see it every morning on the way to practice.
- **Spectator area.** Families waiting for the next heat can look up records during long meets.
- **Team web page.** Share the board’s web address with alumni swimmers and incoming freshmen.

## Swim team record board questions

### Can we keep short course and long course records separate?

Yes. Put each course in its own collection, and add a Course filter if you want visitors to switch between them. You can do the same for 1-meter and 3-meter diving.

### How do we show relay records?

Enter the relay event as the title and list all four swimmers in order in the subtitle. The biography can tell the story of the swim, and you can add team photos from the meet.

### Where do diving records go?

Give diving its own collection with the score and the number of dives in the subtitle. Each diver gets a full profile with up to 100 photos, just like the swimmers.

### Our pool records include visiting swimmers. Can we show them?

Yes. Keep a separate pool records collection for the fastest swims in your pool by any team, and keep your own school records in another, so both lists stay clear.
