Recognize the cadet commanders, drill teams, color guards and award recipients your unit has produced. Each cadet’s profile shows their rank, their teams and the ribbons they earned.

## What is a JROTC recognition display?

A JROTC recognition display is a school exhibit honoring a unit’s cadet leaders, drill and color guard teams, award recipients and instructors, usually placed outside the JROTC classroom or at the main entrance. HistoryShowcase lets instructors picture each year’s cadet staff, show competition results as banners, and keep the unit’s history on a timeline.

- Made for: JROTC instructors, principals and unit booster clubs
- Where schools put it: Outside the JROTC classroom, Main entrance, Veterans Day assembly
- Layouts: Portrait gallery, Pennant, Honors ledger, Timeline
- Visitors can filter by: Team, Award, Year
- Cost: Free to use. No payment details required.

## Cadets earn more than a hallway can hold

A JROTC unit runs on recognition. Cadets earn ribbons for academics, service, drill and leadership. They hold rank and staff positions, compete on drill and raider teams, and post the colors at football games and community events. Most of it is visible only on their uniform or in the instructor’s records, and when they graduate, the record of their leadership leaves with them.

A JROTC recognition display gives the unit a history. Each year’s cadet commander and staff are pictured. Drill, color guard and raider teams have their own entries with every member named and every competition result. Award recipients are listed by award. New cadets see the leaders they are following, and the unit’s instructors have their years of service recorded too.

## How does a JROTC recognition display compare with a unit trophy case?

| What matters | Unit trophy case | HistoryShowcase |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Past cadet commanders | A framed photo, if one was kept | A portrait and profile for each year |
| Drill meet results | Trophies marked with event and year | Entries with members, results and meet photos |
| Ribbon and award recipients | Recorded in instructor files | Listed by award and year |
| Instructors’ service | Usually remembered informally | Recorded by year on the unit timeline |
| Event days | Seen only inside the building | Opened on a lobby screen or by link |

## What goes on a JROTC recognition display

- **Cadet commanders and staff.** Each year’s commander, executive officer, sergeant major and staff, with their portrait, rank and position.
- **Drill teams.** Armed and unarmed drill teams with members named, competition results and photos from meets.
- **Color guard.** The cadets who presented the colors, and the games, ceremonies and community events where they did it.
- **Raider and academic teams.** Raider, marksmanship and academic teams if your unit fields them, each with its rosters and results.
- **Ribbons and awards.** Award recipients listed by award and year, from unit ribbons to the honors presented at your awards ceremony.
- **Instructors and unit history.** Senior and assistant instructors by year, the year the unit was established and its milestones.

## How to organize your unit’s recognition

Give leadership, teams and awards their own collections, and let a timeline hold the unit’s history.

## How do you set up a JROTC recognition display?

1. **Start with this year’s leadership.** Add the current commander and staff with their portraits, then the teams and their competition results.
2. **Work back through unit records.** Import a spreadsheet of past commanders and award recipients, or let Smart Add read old awards ceremony programs.
3. **Publish for the awards ceremony.** Preview it privately, publish before the ceremony, and add new recipients once awards are presented.

## Where should a JROTC recognition display go?

- **Outside the JROTC classroom.** Cadets see it every day on the way to class.
- **Main entrance.** Visitors, including veterans attending school events, see the unit’s history.
- **Veterans Day assembly.** Open the display in the gym lobby before the program starts.

## JROTC recognition display questions

### Can cadets help keep it up to date?

Yes. Add a cadet public affairs officer as an editor. Changes save to a private draft, and an instructor publishes them.

### What should we publish about current cadets?

Your unit and school decide. Rank, position and awards are a common starting point. Nothing goes live until someone with publishing access publishes it.

### Can we connect cadets to alumni who served?

Yes. A separate collection can recognize unit alumni who went on to military service, alongside your school’s veterans wall if you have one.
