Keep your program’s passing, rushing, receiving, defensive and kicking records in one place, split into single-game, season and career lists, with a profile for every player.

## What is a football record board?

A football record board lists a program’s best single-game, season and career marks in passing, rushing, receiving, defense and kicking, with the player and year, and it usually hangs in a locker room hallway or field house. With HistoryShowcase, each time span becomes its own ledger with a category filter, and every mark opens to the player’s profile.

- Where schools put it: Locker room hallway, Gym lobby on homecoming weekend, Football program website

## Football keeps three record books, not one

Every football stat has three records: the best single game, the best season and the best career. Multiply that by passing, rushing, receiving, tackles, sacks, interceptions and field goals, and a program has dozens of marks. No painted locker room wall has room for that, so most schools post a handful of yardage records and the rest live in a coach’s binder.

A football record board organizes them the way the record book does. Single-game, season and career records each get their own collection, with the category as a filter, so a visitor can choose rushing and see all three. When a quarterback sets a new season passing mark in the playoffs, the coach can update it before the banquet, and the previous holder moves into record history instead of being erased.

## How does a football record board compare with a coach’s record book binder?

| What matters | Record book binder | HistoryShowcase |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who can see it | Whoever has the binder | Anyone walking past, or anyone with the link |
| Single-game, season and career lists | Pages in one binder | Three ledgers with a category filter |
| Defense and special teams | In the binder, not on the wall | Same space as passing and rushing |
| Earlier record holders | Crossed out or retyped | Kept in a record history timeline |
| Adding older records | Retype pages by hand | Smart Add suggests entries from an uploaded program |

## What to include on a football record board

- **Passing records.** Completions, yards and touchdown passes, in single-game, season and career lists.
- **Rushing and receiving.** Rushing yards and touchdowns, receptions and receiving yards, each with the game or season it came from.
- **Defensive records.** Tackles, sacks, interceptions and fumble recoveries, the marks that rarely make the painted wall.
- **Special teams.** Longest field goal, most field goals in a season, and kick and punt return records.
- **Team records.** Most wins in a season, longest winning streak, most points in a game and playoff appearances.
- **Player profiles.** Each mark opens to the player’s profile with their position, class year, biography and game photos.

## How to organize football records

Mirror your record book: separate ledgers by time span, with a filter for the stat category. Profiles carry the stories from Friday nights.

Site: Football Records

- **Single-game records** (Honors ledger): The best individual games, with the opponent and date in the subtitle.
- **Season records** (Honors ledger): The best full seasons, by category and year.
- **Career records** (Honors ledger): Career totals, with the years the player was on varsity.
- **Team records** (Honors ledger): Wins, streaks, points and playoff runs for the program as a whole.
- **Record history** (Timeline): Broken records in the order they fell, so earlier players stay on the board.

Visitors can filter by: Category, Position, Year.

## How do you set up a football record board?

1. **Open the record book.** Type up the current record book, or upload it and let Smart Add suggest each record with its source for you to check.
2. **Sort it by time span.** File records into single-game, season and career collections, and tag each with its category so the filter works.
3. **Update before the banquet.** After the season, add any new records, preview the board privately and publish before the awards banquet.

## Where should a football record board go?

- **Locker room hallway.** Players walk past the marks they’re chasing every day of the season.
- **Gym lobby on homecoming weekend.** Families and alumni look up old records when the most former players are back in the building.
- **Football program website.** Share the board’s web address with alumni, families and players being recruited.

## Football record board questions

### We have dozens of records. Will they fit?

Yes. Records live in collections that visitors browse and filter, so there’s no wall space to run out of. Split them into single-game, season and career lists, and let visitors filter by category.

### Can we show who held a record before?

Yes. When a record falls, update the current entry and move the previous holder into a record history collection, with their profile and photos intact.

### Our records from the 1970s are incomplete. Is that a problem?

No. Add what you can confirm now and fill in the rest as alumni send old programs or newspaper clippings. Smart Add can read a program you upload and suggest entries for you to review.

### Can we include defensive and special teams records?

Yes. Add any category your program tracks, from tackles and sacks to field goals and return yards. Each category can have single-game, season and career records.
